Catalyst Internship
The Ochsner Catalyst Internship focused on gaining patient care experience through athletic training at local New Orleans high schools. Here, I was able to learn several transferable skills for my future in healthcare. Through this internship, I learned the importance of thoroughly analyzing, determining a diagnosis, and creating an immediate treatment, whether that be an ice pack, a wrap, or a visit with a physician, as well as a treatment plan. The Catalyst Internship included workshops every week that focused on networking as well as resume-building skills. We focused on building a LinkedIn page, reaching out via email to those in our field to shadow, and participating in mock interview sessions for graduate schools.

Baton Rouge General
At BRG, I volunteered within two departments. My Freshman year, from September 2022 to May 2023, I volunteered at the Pediatrics Outpatient Rehab. My role included helping PTs and OTs clean toys and rooms, assisting with check-in, and serving as support to therapists. I dedicated 65 hours to the Rehabilitation unit. My Junior year, from September 2024 to December 2024, I dedicated 20 hours to the infusion unit. In this unit, I helped room patients, ran medications from the pharmacy to the infusion clinic, and assisted in filing charts.

STAR Program
The Ochsner STAR Program is an internship for high school seniors that gives underprivileged students the opportunity to be exposed to different roles in healthcare. I met with physicians and was educated about their roles, given the opportunity to shadow physicians, and worked with group members and doctors to create a research project to demonstrate my understanding of CRISPR technology. This internship allowed me to understand the several paths that lie in healthcare. This program focused on working together as a group and served as an educational portion of my future. I believe I became a stronger writer through this program, as well as having to create a research poster and explain our research on CRISPR to physicians and mentors.
